Job Description

Job Title: EXPERT –AGRI/HORTI/NRM (Subject Matter Specialist)

Office/Location: Agriculture Production Cluster (APC) Project in Kaptipada Block, SAKTI SIKHA DEVELOPMENT SOCIETY (SDS)

Service Condition: Contractual

Period of Service: This is a long-term position with an initial contract of 1 year, extendable annually subject to performance review and organisational needs.

Essential Qualification:Master’s/bachelor’s degree in Agri/Horti/Zoology/Livestock Science

Mandatory Experience :

  • Candidate should have at least 3-4 years of experience in the Agriculture and Livelihood project.
  • Proficiency in MS Excel, MS Word, PPT/Email.
  • Should have experience in preparing project impact reports, Case studies and success stories.

Key Responsibility:

  • Support the design and planning of the agriculture/horticulture/livestock/and other subsector strengthening and convergence components of the programme.
  • Manage the implementation of the agriculture/horticulture/livestock/and other subsector strengthening and convergence components of the programme
  • 3000 smallholder SHG women farmers would be mobilised into a Producer Group (PG)
  • At least 25 women PG will be formed, out of which 80% will have to meet the Grade A & B category
  • Ensure the selection of high-value crops and cover at least 1000 acres per year.
  • Select 20 Agriculture Entrepreneurs (AE) and train them to provide critical quality services
  • Ensure to bring 400 acres of area under irrigation
  • Ensure to bring 200 acres of area under new horticulture plantation
  • Monitor the grading, sorting, and packaging at the PG level
  • Ensure access for all farmers to farm mechanisation
  • Ensure 40% of the area must be covered under Non-Pesticide Management (NPM) practices
  • Ensure at least 1000 families would take up improved livestock rearing, out of which 750 families would have shares with intensive rearing
  • Ensure income will be doubled for 2100 farmers
  • Formation and strengthening of a new Farmers Producer Company and ensuring all PG members are linked with the FPC for strengthening the cluster.
  • Prepare project reports as per requirement of the Department and input into narrative project reports
  • Draft, monitor and manage activity budgets with support/oversight from Programme Manager
  • Support the design and implementation of the monitoring framework and plan as it relates to agriculture/horticulture/livestock/and other subsector strengthening and convergence components of the programme.
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with all stakeholders, Govt Officers and APC Programme Secretariats.
  • Work closely with all project staff and develop the capacity of the project team
  • Provide support, guidance and advice to CC/CRP and other project staff in the development and implementation of activities.
  • Support the Programme Manager in the programme management and administration of the project as needed.
  • Liaise closely with the Programme Manager, keeping him up to date on progress and problems as they arise
  • Represent the project and Organisation in the absence of the Programme Manager as required
  • Any other duties that arise as appropriate and given by the Organisation
  • Perform any other related work as required from time to time.
  • Responsible for capacity building of PGs & PCs, community Cadres (CRPs, AE, UM, KM & PM), and Master Trainers.
  • Build perspective and capability of staff and community around improved agriculture, irrigation infrastructure creation, marketing & livestock rearing; high value horticulture, irrigation, grading, sorting, packaging & marketing and livestock rearing.
  • Facilitate the non-pesticide management (NPM) practices.
  • Prepare an activity plan for the team and ensure the program implementation.
  • Prepare livelihood plans at the PG level, ensuring consolidation of the plan and convergence from various line departments to actualise the plan.
  • Value chain study of agricultural commodities and ensure market linkage.
  • Set up market eco-systems around APCs.
  • Designing different training modules to conduct training at different levels.
  • Establish healthy working relationships with relevant Stakeholders.
  • Provide information on the project; Coordinate with Mater Trainers; Demonstrate thematic activity in the area.

Nature of Work: Office 20%, Field 80%

Monthly Compensation: Rs. 26,000 /- (including TA) per month.
